Summary
BMAL1 deficiency leads to a premature epidermal aging due to deregulation of the homeostasis of the tissue that starts as early as 8 weeks of age. Exclusive expression of Bmal1 in the epidermis importantly rescues this phenotype independently, at least in part, of its circadian rhythmicity. However, systemic Bmal1 expression is required to completely assure that epidermal fitness is maintained.
